Sonic The Comic #111 - September 1997
“The Evil Empire – Part Four”

Tails manages to break his way into the building to try and help Sonic, who is getting beaten by the Metallix. The fox calls his friend over and when the Metallix follows he gets crushed in a large metal door. A Prosecutor turns up to get Sonic back but he takes it down and finds out that under the robotic bodies Drakon are actually fish. The Emperor says that since Sonic defeated the Metallix he won the trial and is free to go. But before leaving Sonic tells him that as long as the Drakon Empire works with Robotnik they’ll be his enemies.

“Hero of the Beach”

While Tails protects a new holiday resort called Skegpool against the possible threat of a badnik attack from Flickies’ Island some Mobians talk about how much of a hero he is. One person however, Daz Dynamo, doubts Tails is a real hero at all. Aware of Tails protecting the beach from the sky Robotnik sends some Caterkillers to attack from underground. Tails manages to fight them all off and sends the remaining waste from the Chemical Plant Zone down the hole straight into Robotnik’s base. Daz then decides that maybe Tails is an “Okay dude” after all.

“Spaced Out – Part One”

Amy and Tekno meet Johnny Lightfoot while taking a walk in the Emerald Hill Zone and ask where he’s been for so long. Johnny says he’s been away visiting family and while they’re talking about old friends Amy wonders where Shortfuse The Cybernik has been. Tekno says she’s been working on a machine that can track the frequencies of the circuits in Shortfuse’s armour so they go to test it out. A holographic image of Shortfuse appears and they notice he has something weird stuck to his armour, but before they can discuss this more the machine malfunctions and transports the girls to another dimension. They reappear on a space ship where a group called the Insectra Empire attacks them. After managing to escape one of the group comments that the Destroyer will get them, and this Destroyer turns out to be Shortfuse, who is an enemy now!

“No Future”

Robotnik creates a new badnik that apparently transports Sonic 1000 years in the future to a world where badnik’s still rule even though Robotnik himself is long gone. The people of the future seem to enjoy being hurt by the badniks and start to attack Sonic when he tries to save them from the badniks. But Sonic realises this future isn’t what Mobius will really become and breaks the illusion the first badnik had on his mind, bringing him back to present time. After that vision Sonic only becomes more determined then ever to take down Robotnik.

“Channel Hoppers”

A new TV show called the Channel Hoppers (Think Teletubbies) is grabbing the attention of teenagers nationwide. After watching the show kids want to act out Badniks vs. Sonic matches, and they say the badniks are the cool ones! Their parents insist this must be a phase they’re going through but Tails isn’t so sure and goes to pay these Channel Hoppers a visit. He finds out that they’re really members of D.R.A.T. broadcasting a frequency only young minds can pick up making them believe Robotnik is wonderful. But Tails’s friend Tim Tuna manages to block the communication and send a message across telling everyone the real plot instead, causing the Channel Hoppers’ plan to fail.

“It’s Raining Bananas”

This one off story is told entirely in rhyme. The Emerald Hill folk are enjoying a normal day when out of nowhere bananas start raining from the sky. Sonic suspects Grimer might be behind this and over at Flickies’ Island we find out he’s right. The machine Grimer created was supposed to launch missiles but for some reason its launching bananas instead. He tries to fix this problem with a sledgehammer but after stopping the machine he’s faced with more bananas, as Sonic has created a twister to send them back.

“Spaced out – Part Two”

Amy says she’s seen enough sci-fi movies to guess the thing on Shortfuse’s chest is controlling his mind, but he captures them before they can do anything about it. He takes them to Grand Visor, the leader of the Insectra Empire and would be ruler of the galaxy. Amy keeps him talking while Tekno tries to get the creature off Shortfuse’s chest. When the guards try to attack Tekno they accidentally knock the creature off and Shortfuse isn’t the slightest bit happy about being controlled. But before he can get even with them the Blurrgh, enemy of the Insectra, attacks the ship.

“The Detour”

Sonic and Tails are looking for a place to land the bi-plane, but because of a mass of fog they can’t even see the land. They manage to find a gap in the fog and head for it, but the place they end up landing in isn’t like anywhere they’ve ever seen before. Tails comments that trying to find a way around this fog is worse then being stuck in a maze, when the fog clears to reveal they really are in a maze. Then Tails starts to tell Sonic about a story he read where a minotaur lived in a maze, when a minotaur turns up and tries to squash them. They manage to escape and Tails says they were lucky it wasn’t a yeti that attacked them when a yeti does attack them. Sonic says can handle one, and Tails comments it’s a good thing he didn’t bring his tribe. And low behold his tribe turns up. They run to hide in a cave while Sonic wonders about everything Tails says coming true. He runs out to say the games up when one of the Tantaror reveals himself. He tells them they must do what he wants, but then his father turns up telling him he can’t have pets until he knows how to look after them. So Sonic and Tails get sent back to Mobius.

“Fall of the Leaf – Part One”

Tails is travelling through Eldorado Zone when a Drill-Bot from an underground diamond mine goes crazy due to the large amount of jewellery in the area and attacks. He stops the Drill-Bot but when he doesn’t accept the offer of jewellery as a reward the citizens think there’s something wrong with him and want him to clear off. Before he can leave however he’s accused of a robbery with photo evidence…

“Spaced Out – Part Three”

The Insectra are shot down onto an alien planet by their enemies and the two sides what to settle the fight there and then. But the leader of the KaamDaarn race who lives on the planet, Mello, along with her friend Amber step in to stop them, saying there’s no violence on this planet. The Insectra and the Blurrgh try to make a temporary alliance to take over this new planet but due to the planet’s energy flow their weapons don’t function forcing them to give in. After the fight Shortfuse decides to stay here instead of going back to Mobius because the KaamDaarn might be able to find a way to get him out of his armour. So the girls set off to return home without him.

“Crisis in the Chemical Plant Zone – Part One”

The Control Centre of the Emerald Hill Zone receive an audio message for help saying a serious malfunction in the Chemical Plant Zone might cause an ecological disaster of pollution on a massive scale. Sonic and Tails go to see how they can help only to discover that the zone is now owned by the Marxio Brothers. The two decide they have to help them even if they don’t like the idea of working alongside the Marxio Brothers so they go to take a look at the factory that once manufactured Mega Mack. As they travel further inside figures form out of the Mega Mack and start to attack, then revealing their plan to cause a mass explosion of Mega Mack that will infect the Emerald Hill Zone making it uninhabitable for hundreds of years.

“Fall of the Leaf – Part Two”

As time goes on Tails is accused committing more robberies and asks for a chance to prove his innocence before being arrested. When the real thief tries to steal a gold bike frame he is caught red handed and discovered to be called the Leaf, bearing a resemblance to Tails only in the dark, where his two mechanical leaf-shaped wings look like Tails’s tails. He tries to escape and proves to be faster then Tails but soon the batteries to his wings run out causing Tails to caught him and hand him over to the police.

Amy and Tekno are travelling through space, but find themselves lost and decide to ask a local planet for directions. The planet they choose to stop on is Earth and are found by Professor Cratermass who takes them back to his lab where Tekno tries to fix up a gateway to infra-space he’s been working on but can’t figure out the correct data so they can get back to Mobius. However, he’s not the only one to notice the landing and Colonel Granite of Operation Starwatch soon shows up to arrest them.

“Crisis in the Chemical Plant Zone – Part Two”

The individual Mega Mack figures form together to reveal Megatox, an old enemy of Sonic’s. Megatox had been growing for years after Sonic first beat him, increasing in strength every second, so once he bursts out of the factory he could destroy the Emerald Hill Zone. But first he wants to destroy Sonic, and every time he attacks him Sonic becomes more and more poisoned. Sonic gets one chance to destroy him before he can change back into a liquid form knocking him unconscious so he could be cleaned up and out of the Chemical Plant Zone for good.

“Weather Beaten”

Tails has sprained his tails so is told to lay off the flying for a few days just when Windy Wallis returned in a large blimp to get revenge for her last defeat. Tails tries to go fight her but his bi-plane’s been clamped, meaning he has to use a helicopter created by Roger Bodge. But like all of Roger Bodge’s creations the helicopter goes wrong and crashes into the blimp, causing it to explode.

“Earthbound – Part Two”

Amy and Tekno have been captured and are taken in for questioning about an alien invasion Colonel Granite thinks they’re planning. While Professor Cratermass is accused of plot for world domination. Tekno manages to use one of her explosive earrings to help them escape then the three take the space ship back to the lab where the girls get transported back to Mobius. But Professor Cratermass deletes the program before it can be used again, which isn’t possible without Tekno’s input.

“Best of Enemies – Part One”

In the Drakkon Empire the Leader of the House of Magic, sister Haggra, has called together the Master Scholar from the House of Learning and Emperor Ko-Door from the House of War (Who put Sonic on trial) to show them a vision that the Vapours of Destiny have given her. The image is clearly of Sonic, though Emperor Ko-Door doesn’t seem to recognise him, and Haggra claims he knows the secrets of the Chaos Emeralds. Back in the Emerald Hill Zone Sonic and Tails are smashing badniks sent by Robotnik to remind Sonic of his continued existence. Robotnik is showing Grimer more Metallixes that are being constructed when Emperor Ko-Door turns up telling him to keep his end of the bargain. He tells Robotnik he had to pretend not to know about Sonic in the meeting and he needs the Chaos Emeralds if he wants to rule over the other two Houses. After defeating the badniks Sonic and Tails see the Floating Island and start to talk about how the Chaos Emeralds are keeping it afloat when Sonic gets a sudden cold chill indicating that something terrible is about to happen…

“Hunter and the Hunted – Part One”

At the Groovy Train coffee bar in Metropolis City Pyjamas is having a vision of a creature with incredible power heading this way. While Ebony tells her that this vision will probably be a dud the powerless Super Sonic walks in the door. Meanwhile Lord Sidewinder has managed to escape from prison and send Biohazard through a dimensional portal with a tracker to find Super Sonic so he can once again try to harness his powers. Super Sonic is explaining to Ebony and Pyjamas how he lost his memory and has been wandering around the city for weeks before deciding to come here and ask for a job. Pyjamas starts to protest about giving him job but before they can discuss the matter Biohazard arrives, wrecking the place in his search for Super Sonic.

“Spooked”

Amy and Tekno are in the Old Hill Zone when they hear rumours about a haunted house where people have heard wailing noises and seen a white figure at one of the windows, so they decide to go and investigate. On the inside the house is falling apart and one of the wails causes the head of a gargoyle to fall and nearly crush Tekno. When they find the “ghost” it turns out to be nothing more then Fabian Vane practising for his comeback, and his singing causes the house’s foundations to weaken to the point of collapsing around them – Putting an end to this comeback attempt.

“Best of Enemies – Part Two”

Emperor Ko-Door sends a Sentinel to try and capture Sonic so he can find the location of the Chaos Emeralds from him. While he watches Sonic destroy the Sentinel Grimer asks Robotnik why he’s letting Ko-Door try to capture Sonic when they could tell him the location of the Chaos Emeralds themselves. Robotnik tells Grimer he has plans of his own and Ko-Door decides to send more Sentinels along with a Prosecutor to bring Sonic back, but in his home zone Sonic has the edge over them. Until the Prosecutor reveals a giant Master Sentinel.

“Hunter and Hunted – Part Two”

Ebony tries to fight off Biohazard while Pyjamas takes Super Sonic to hide in the back room, but because magic mainly works on the mind and Biohazard is seriously thick her spells don’t seem to work on him. Ebony uses his stupidity to her advantage, casting a spell to create the illusion of multiple Super Sonics while they run to hide. In the back room Ebony asks Pyjamas to perform a mind link with Super Sonic so they can find out who he is and why Biohazard’s after him. But before long the illusions wear off and Biohazard’s track points him in the direction of the back room…

“Hot Legs”

The Emerald Hill folk are preparing a bonfire with wooden figures of Robotnik to put in it while Sonic and Tails watch. They start to argue which figure is the most ugly when a giant model of Robotnik is wheeled in which has been produced overseas. It turns out Robotnik made this figure and when it’s hatch opens up a horde of Badniks fly out. There’s too many to fight so while Sonic uses his speed to set the giant Robotnik figure on fire Tails distracts them then leads them all towards it causing an explosion, and a pretty good bonfire display.

“High in the Sky”

Norris Wimple gets himself on TV for sighting a UFO, but he has yet to even get the film developed! Some members of D.R.A.T. see the show and think the UFO might actually be one of Robotnik’s new secret weapons, so they set out to kidnap Norris before the film can get developed. Amy and Tekno try to rescue him but are attacked by explosive Frisbees fired from the D.R.A.T. van. Tekno manages to catch and reprogram one of them, sending it back towards the van, causing it to explode. But when it’s all over and Norris does get the photos it turns out it was only Tails he’d caught on camera…

“Best of Enemies – Part Three”

If Sonic doesn’t surrender the Master Sentinel will march down to the Emerald Village and destroy it, but the hedgehog isn’t going to give up without a fight. Grimer expresses his worries to Robotnik about the possibility of Sonic telling Ko-Door they already knew where the Chaos Emeralds were themselves but Robotnik tell him that by that time his plan will already be in play. Sonic manages to taken down the Master Sentinel while the Prosecutor escapes, but it turns out Ko-Door didn’t need him after all as Grimer betrays Robotnik and reveals the location of the Chaos Emeralds.

“Hunter and the Hunted – Part Three”

Pyjamas’s mind link reawakens Super Sonic’s memories just as Biohazard manages to find them. Once he’s captured Pyjamas shouts that he could use his powers to stop Biohazard but Super Sonic tells her that since his powers give him the uncontrollable urge to destroy he never wants to tap into them again. Before Biohazard can send him back to the Special Stage he himself disappears, as the police have tracked Sidewinder down and are sending him and his gang back to prison. Pyjamas apologise to Super Sonic for trying to make him use his powers and Ebony decides to give him the job that he wanted.

“Tall Tails”

Tails is shopping for a Christmas tree and worries about having to buy a hand-made one, as he doesn’t think it’s right to chop down trees. A biochemist shows him formula she’s been working on to re-grow trees, but a couple of Badniks are sent by Robotnik to get back the formula. During the fight Tails gets soaked by the formula and grows to become a giant, which causes a lot of problems. However, when some storm clouds gather they wash the formula off Tails, shrinking him down to normal size. After that he decides it’s safer to stick with hand-made Christmas trees.

“Multi-Mania”

Robotnik has noticed how Amy and Tekno have become quite a threat to him and decides to send a group of Badniks to targets them, particularly Tekno as her genius mind is annoying him. While Amy fights them off Tekno goes to her underground workshop to fetch a device she’s been working on that creates multiple holograms of her. Since the Badniks are only after Tekno they start firing at the holograms and end up hitting each other. In a change of plan Robotnik orders Tekno to switch off the device and hand it over or Amy will suffer the consequences. Tekno decides she can’t risk Amy’s life and hands the device over. Robotnik plans to use the device to create multiple images of Badniks to force people to obey him, but it turns out it can only create images of Tekno and is useless to him.

“Face to Face”

After defeating more Badniks a TV screen showing Robotnik tells Sonic that the conflict between them will continue unless they can reach an agreement. He tells Sonic to meet him on Sky High Peak tomorrow with no tricks and no weapons so they can have a peace talk. Sonic decides that although it may be a trap it would be worth the risk for a chance at peace. When they meet Robotnik offers to leave them in peace if he can have control over just one zone, but Sonic tells him that he wants to protect every zone so he won’t accept the deal. This is when Robotnik reveals himself to be a hologram and has implanted a plasma ray cannon on the peak that will blast it apart so fast not even Sonic would have a chance to escape. But after the explosion it turns out Sonic is also a hologram projected from Tekno’s workshop and the two come to a slate mate ending the transmission.

Sonic The Comic #120 - January 1998
“Riot Resolution”

The Emerald Hill folk find that sometimes they have trouble making up their minds on their own, so they go to ‘Wally Dither’s Centre for the Undecided’ to get help deciding on their New Year’s resolutions. Wally (A member of D.R.A.T.) convinces them that the best resolution they could make would be to destroy Sonic, and they believe him! But obviously the ordinary citizens don’t have a chance fighting against Sonic so when he’s worn them out they tell him the Dithers set the resolution. Sonic figures Dithers was using them to distract while he and Grand Chief Whip try to wipe out the Control Centre where the Kintobor Computer is based. But when Sonic does arrive back their Dithers can’t decide upon which of his weapons to use against him, giving Sonic the time to defeat him. After that the Emerald Hill folk decide to think for themselves in future.

“New Year Twister”

Tails goes to visit Knuckles on the Floating Island since he didn’t see him at all over Christmas. While Knuckles explains that dates often go past unnoticed to him since he lives on his own an avalanche starts, so he pulls Tails out of the way before they can get hurt – but Tails’s bi-plane ends up buried in the snow. After Knuckles digs it out Tails suggests they fly to a safer zone, such as Mushroom Hill. But when they get there a tornado begins to blow! Knuckles manages to save Tails again and oddly enough the tornado disappears without causing any environmental damage. Then Tails spots something moving in the bushes that could be a badnik, so Knuckles smashes his fists against the ground to reveal the person hiding in the bush, namely Sonic. Sonic explains it was him who set up the avalanche and tornado to see if Knuckles still had what it takes to fight Robotnik. Knuckles isn’t very happy about this but tells Sonic he’ll be there when he’s needed.

“Breakout – Part One”

Before Amber returns to her home planet after a visit to Mobius she gives Shortfuse a computer program designed by KaamDaarn Psi Technology which when implanted in his system sets him free from his armour at long last. Amber tells Shorty that that he can wear the armour by choice whenever he wants to and that she’ll only ever see them again in the dimensions become parallel once more. After being trapped in his armour for two years Shorty just wants to party so Amy and Tekno take him to the midnight striking at Metropolis Zone (Shorty decides to bring his armour along just encase). However, a really stupid villain called Party Pooper thinks he can freeze time by stopping the bell from chiming with a magnetic ray. But Amy tells him time won’t freeze if you stop a clock and Tekno says the bell is made of brass so the magnet won’t affect it anyway. Because of this Party Pooper has a change of plan and decides to attack Shortfuse instead, only since Shorty wasn’t wearing his armour the ray didn’t work and pulls the scaffolding down towards them instead. Shorty panics since he doesn’t know how to handle situations like this without his Armour so the girls save him and Party Pooper by pulling them out of the way. However, at the nearby top security prison the magnetic rays have reactivated one of the prisoners – Vermin The Cybernik...
