""When Hedgehogs Collide"

Writers: Mike Kanterovich & Ken Penders

Inker: Rich Koslowski

The return Of the Anti-Sonic! And this time he's brought friends... The Anti-Sonic is looking for some action, so he rounds up the "gang" consisting of the Anti-Sally, the Anti-Tails, the Anti-Rotor and the Anti-Antoine! They then take the Cosmic Interstate to Mobius, dress like their counterparts and steadily proceed to terrorize the Mobian countryside! So where have the Good Guys been all this time? Sonic, Tails and Antoine had been sent by Rotor into "negative reality" though they were unable to penetrate "the Zone of Silence" (aka, The Void) where Sally's father is being held. Sally's been out on a mission with the trainees (The Princess Sally Miniseries). And everyone arrives back in time only to have their fellow Mobians terrorize them! However an attempt to confront the Anti-Freedom Fighters turns into a draw until Sally realizes that there's no way they can defeat their other selves, who would be able to anticipate their strategies. So how do they propose to beat the snot out of them? "Change Partners!"

Sonic The Comic #53 - June 1995
"Disaster! - Part Three"
Writer: Nigel Kitching
Artist: Richard Elson

It's all over for the Death Egg, being torn apart as Knuckles' continues attacks from the Floating Island! As Sonic flies back to the island by using an Egg-Robo's jet pack, a battle-armoured Robotnik executes a final attack on Sonic in his battle armour, but Sonic pushes him off the island's edge.

Knuckles agrees to let Sonic evacuate the Emerald Hill zone residents to the Mushroom Hill Zone on the Floating Island, where they'll be safe from attack for the time being.

What could be just another big fight scene has a distinctly raw edge in the shape of one echidna defending his home with all he's got, and an awful lot of pathos in that ethereal scene of the arrival of the evacuees.

"Total Chaotix - Part One"
Writer: Nigel Kitching
Artist: Richard Elson

While checking the damage done to the Floating Island by the blasts of Robotnik's Death Egg, Knuckles discovers a strange circular stone with ancient writing on it, that cryptically says something about a "Gateway to a Dream Country".

Sucked in as he touches the stone, he realises that the writing said "Nightmare Country" - the name Knuckles' people used for the weird dimension known as the Special Zone!

Once in the zone he meets the Omni-Viewer, who still believes that Knuckles is working for Robotnik, and sends its own team of guardians - the Chaotix: Vector, Mighty, Espio, Charmy Bee... and Nack the weasel!

Sonic The Comic #54 - June 1995
"Beware Predicto"
Writer: Lew Stringer
Artist: Cassanovas

The new badnik seems to resist all of Sonic`s best attempts to bring it down by being able to counteract his every move. It introduces itself as Predicto, and invites each of the Freedom Fighters in turn to test its knowledge of their attack patterns, besting them all. Sonic is only able to confound and subsequently destroy it by pretending to surrender, which he, of course, would never do.

"Total Chaotix - Part Two"
Writer: Nigel Kitching
Artist: Richard Elson

Despite the Chaotix's abilities, Knuckles defeats all of them one by one. Meanwhile, the Omni-Viewer has checked Knuckles' story and found out that Knuckles is no enemy - but it's too late!

At that moment, two Metallixes appear! They've been sent by the Brotherhood of Metallix to capture the Omni-Viewer and use it for their own ends.

Sonic Holiday Special #1 - June 1995
In a taste of things to come, this special reprinted the comic strips already published within the Sonic the Poster Mag series (The Kid Cruel Caper from #3, Ocean of Horror from #5, Marble Garden Menace from #6, Trapped in the Vortex from #9) and added one original strip:

"Holiday Hot Spot"
Writer: Lew Stringer
Artist: Mike Hadley

As a reward for beating the badniks back from yet another zone, a rhino with a holodeck (well, it's not named in the strip, but that's what it is) offers the freedom fighters a virtual tropical beach break. Sonic doesn't believe in time off whilst there's still Robotnik to fight, but the others take up the offer.

None of them seem to have the wit to notice that the rhino addresses Sonic as "spikeball", and Sonic himself is out of the way by the time he realises - after the speech he's just given about not stopping thinking about Robotnik, this level of gullibility from the entire group seems like a bit of a suspension of disbelief too far.

The rhino is, of course, Robotnik in disguise - who lets onto the holodeck a swarm of eggrobos, who've almost beaten the gang down when Sonic charges in to save the day. Given his total unwariness and the fact that he was so worried about the group that he heroically left them completely alone, the attempt in Sonic's dialogue to bolt a "Don't trust strangers" moral onto the end seems rather hollow.

Additional features were:

A joint interview with Sonic and Knuckles
A feature on that year's Sega roadshow
Four mini posters
