“Troubled Waters - Part Two”

Artist: Nigel Dobbyn

Knuckles defeats Captain Claw and the Octo-Naught by causing some highly convenient sea stacks to crush it. But since Knuckles` boat has been destroyed, he`s reduced to loading his chest of documents onto the wreckage, and forcing the Captain to row it towards the nearest shore.

“The Mystery Villian”
Writer: Lew Stringer
Artist: Mike Hadley

Tails is suddenly attacked by a stranger who seems to know him well and hold a serious grudge. After besting her during their chase, he finds out that it is actually Metamorphis, who, robbed of her shape-changing powers as a punishment for her failure to catch Sonic, is out for revenge against any of the Freedom Fighters that she can find, in order to prove her worth. Tails comforts her, telling her that she is better off away from Robotnik, and she suddenly undergoes one final, unexpected metamorphosis. Transformed into a young girl, she will be unrecognisable to Robotnik, giving her an opportunity to start a new life.

Tails doing what he does best: being kind and reasonable. This is most likely an unexpected, and certainly a highly sentimental ending to the story of Metamorphia, but that`s probably its charm.

After flying around for a while he realises that the new sneakers must have a homing device in them so he looks for a place to dump them. First he tries to drop them in the sea but a couple of dolphins remind him that there’s life in the ocean as well as on the land. So instead he dumps them on Grimer, who activates the missile’s self-destruct device to save himself. Even though the city folk don’t find Tails cool anymore he’s happy with the new found knowledge that he shouldn’t accept gifts from strangers and comfort is better then fashion.

“Trooper Trouble – Part Two”
Writer: Lew Stringer
Artist: Carl Flint

Tails flies Clive out of the craft and beats the troopers on the way down. Clive promises to give the villagers their money back, and in return Tails tells everyone how Clive helped him defeat the troopers, so that they’ll stop picking on him.

Stringer's Tails stories increasingly held a strong sense of didacticism - made all the more obvious by the use of a character who had only recently been shown to have any sort of maturity at all suddenly knowing better than just about everyone he came across one minute, and not being able to grasp a similar concept the next.
